Trip Details for the Inca Trail
Day 1: Cusco – KM 82 – Wayllabamba – Ayapata
We begin this great adventure very early. We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4:30 a.m. by private transportation and head to Piskacucho (KM 82), the starting point of the legendary Classic Inca Trail. On the way, we will make a short stop in Ollantaytambo for breakfast and to prepare for the hike (breakfast not included).
Upon arriving at KM 82, we will make the final preparations before passing through the official checkpoint, where you must present your original passport and entrance tickets. From here, we cross the Vilcanota River and begin a gentle hike, ideal for acclimatizing and enjoying the surroundings.
During the journey, we will appreciate impressive landscapes such as the fortress of Huillca Raccay, the extensive archaeological complex of Llactapata (Patallacta), the Urubamba mountain range, and the imposing snow-capped W’akay Willca (Verónica). The combination of mountains, green valleys, and abundant flora and fauna makes this first day a perfect introduction to the Inca Trail.
Our campsite will be located in Ayapata, near the Wayllabamba Valley. Night temperatures can drop to 5 °C, so it is important to be well prepared.

Upon reaching the top, you will feel a deep sense of accomplishment surrounded by spectacular views.
After a well-deserved rest, we descend to Pacaymayu, where we will enjoy lunch. During this day, we will observe hummingbirds, Andean birds, and Polylepis (Q’ueuña) forests, a unique cloud forest ecosystem.

From here, the panoramic views of mountains, canyons, and valleys are simply unforgettable. We then descend more than 3,000 Inca steps through the cloud forest to the impressive agricultural site of Intipata, before continuing to our campsite at Wiñay Wayna.
